Alvin “Al” Fogelman

Alvin FogelmanAlvin Fogelman, Sioux Falls, SD, died June 12, 2014. He was 89.

Alvin “Al” F. Fogelman was born in Parker, SD on January 30, 1925, to Amos and Alice (Dannen) Fogelman. He entered the US Army Air Force in December 1943, and served during WWII in the South Pacific. Following his honorable discharge from service in March 1946, he returned to Parker where he owned a milk plant. In 1953, Al moved to Sioux Falls.

He was united in marriage to Adella Schmidt on June 28, 1953, in Parker, SD. Al had a life-long career with the US Post Office. Starting as a mail carrier, he became supervisor and then after 35 years of service, retired as a Post Master at Dell Rapids, SD. After his retirement from the US Postal Service, Al worked as a valet with Sanford / USD Medical Center, retiring again after 10 years.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Adella J. Fogelman, Sioux Falls, SD; son, Bryan (Karen) Fogelman, British Columbia, Canada; daughters, Ava Fogelman, Ashland, OR, Carrie (Mark) Bills, Sioux Falls, SD, Delana (Bob) Reeves, Buckeye, AZ, Erica (Evan) Boyd, Phoenix, AZ; 13 grandchildren; two brothers, Charles (Kay) Fogelman, Lyle (JoAnn)  Fogelman; sister, Darlene (Carrol) Lund; and half-sisters, Karen (Franklin) Olson and Kay (Dean) Rallis. He was preceded in death by his parents; step-father, Carsten Knudsen; and sister, Edna Buthe.

Funeral Services will be held 10:00 am Monday June 16, 2014, at Linwood Wesleyan Church, 1101 E. 57th Street. Visitation with the family present begins 1:00 and will continue to 3:00 Sunday afternoon at Miller Funeral Home, 50 S. Main Avenue.
