The entire Dell Rapids High School Quarrier girls golf team qualified for the state tournament with a third place finish at the Regional Tournament in Aberdeen on Tuesday, May 13th. Dell Rapids edged out Groton for the final team spot in Region 1A. The team had a 5:00 a.m. wake up time and a two and a half hour trip for the Regional tournament, plus had to deal with temperatures around 40 degrees with a 25 mph wind all day. April Tomes finished in eighth place in the tournament. Kaitlyn Greenhoff finished ninth, Sarah Haak had a 17th place finish, and Natasha Reit placed 23rd. Courtney Sorsen will be the fifth Quarrier to represent Dell Rapids at the State Tournament on Monday, May 19th, and Tuesday, May 20th, in Spearfish.
Head coach Jeff Dvorak said, “I was proud of the girls ability to overcome some real adversity today. There were 2 other teams who had beaten us during the year so it was pretty rewarding to rise up and get this done today. Hopefully, we can have fun and make a strong showing out in Spearfish.”
Two Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinal boys golfers also qualified for the state tournament individually from the Region 2B Tournament held at Wild Oak Golf Club in Mitchell on Tuesday, May 13th. Deubrook finished first as a team, Wessington Springs finished second, and Howard finished third to capture the team spots from Region 2B.
