  • On Monday, the 7th grade boys basketball team took on the Flandreau Flyers.  The Quarriers came out on fire and led 18 to 8 after one.  However the rest of the game would not prove to be so easy as several transition turnovers led to easy buckets for the Flyers and they cut the lead to 5 heading into the final frame.  Flyers would inch closer but several steals down the stretch brought the Quarriers a 40-36 victory and a 4-2 record overall.  In the B Game, the Quarriers fought off a tough flyers team to win 11-9.  Next game will be Friday 1-20-17 at Baltic.
  • The 8th grade boys basketball team defeated Flandreau in overtime by a score of 33 to 27 on Monday afternoon in Dell Rapids.  The boys played very well defensively.  This was a game of spurts and points were hard to come by.  Dells pushed out to a 16 to 10 lead at halftime, while Flandreau battled back to tie the game at 25 all at the end of regulation.  The boys took a 2 point lead in the O-T and then converted their free throws down the stretch to get the win.  The B team lost 7 to 18.

  • Last Thursday, the 7th Grade Quarriers squad traveled to Madison to take on the Bulldogs.  Early in the game, the Quarriers couldn’t buy a bucket and found themselves down 10 early.  However, Quarriers fought back in the second half to cut the lead to 7 in the fourth quarter.  It just wasn’t enough however as the Bulldogs pulled away late with free throws winning the game 38-23 and dropping the Quarriers record to 2-2.  The B game didn’t go much better as the Quarriers struggled from the floor and lost the game 17-10.
  • On Friday night, Lennox came to town in a battle of the black and orange schools.  Quarriers came out on fire and led the orioles 15-5 after one.  Lennox tried to close the gap in the 2nd, but a three at the end of the half gave the Quarriers a 22-13 lead at the break.  At half, Lennox switched to a zone defense and stifled the Quarriers offense for much of the remainder of the game.  However, thanks to tough defense and clutch free throw shooting, Dells came away with a well-deserved 33-28 victory.  In the B game, both offenses struggled to find a rhythm as the defenses swarmed to the ball.  Lennox made a big three pointer and put the Quarriers away for good, 8-4.
  • The 8th grade boys A team defeated Lennox by a score of 42 to 32 on Friday night in Dell Rapids.  The boys played hard all night.  We struggled on the boards and denying the cutters early in the game and trailed by 2 points at the end of the 1st quarter.  We did a better job as the game progressed and gradually pulled away.  The B team fell by a score of 7 to 14.
  • REMINDER TO 7TH AND 8TH GRADE BOYS BASKETBALL PLAYERS:  Sport photos will be taken tomorrow after school at the ES gym – be sure to have your uniform and picture packet.
  • Last night, the 7th grade girls traveled to Flandreau and came home with wins in both games. In the first game, the Quarriers got a 37-17 win. The girls played great defense holding the fliers to only five points in the second half. In the second game of the night for the 7th grade, the Quarriers earned a 10-2 victory.
  • For the 8th grade Lady Q’s, 90% of the girls scored in their loss 37-44. Great hustle was shown by all!
