Verne F. Jorgenson peacefully passed away at the Dells Nursing and Rehab Center on Friday, June 17, 2016, the day of his 90th birthday. His funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 22, 2016 in the Kahler Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be one hour prior to the start of the service. Verne was born to Fred and Louise Jorgenson on June 17, 1926, the youngest of six children. He attended Hunt Country School, District #10 for eight years and graduated from Trent High School in 1944. Verne served in World War II in the US Navy on board the USS Yellowstone, a Destroyer Tender from 1945-1946. After his honorable discharge, he returned to the family farm by Trent and farmed with his father. He retired in 1985 but continued to live on his farm until 2013 when he became a resident of Orchard Hills Assisted Living. He moved to Dells Nursing and Rehab Center in May of 2016.
Survivors included six nieces and nephews, Lauren (Alberta) Anderson, LeRoy (Joyce) Anderson and Charlotte (Jerry) Weiland of Dell Rapids, Larry (Ada) Jorgenson and Marlene (Bill) Husaboe of Trent, and Darrel (Christy) Jorgenson of Loveland, CO and his many great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Lynn (Celia) Jorgenson, Donald (Martha) Jorgenson, and his sisters, Evelyn (Louis) Ross, Inez (Alvin) Anderson and Bernice (John) Tinsley and their son, David.
