Eddie Karst, 87, Selby, SD, died Thursday, August 13, 2015 at his home in Aberdeen, SD. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 AM, Tuesday, August 18, 2015 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Selby, with Father Thomas Clement, Celebrant. Interment follows at Selby Memorial Gardens. Edwin Nicholas Karst, son of Christine (Reuer) and Nick Karst, was born at the family farm in SE Walworth County on March 17, 1928. He attended the Irving Rural School near the farm through 7th grade. In 1942, the family relocated to the Sisseton, SD area where he completed his formal education. In the fall of 1945, the family purchased a farm ½ mile west of Lowry, SD. Eddie lived on the farm until his marriage to Sylvia Anderson at Pierre, SD on August 20, 1951.

Eddie is survived by Sylvia, his wife of nearly 64 years; three sons—Jack Karst and Mick (Kristi) Karst of Aberdeen and Patrick Karst of Palm Springs, CA; three daughters—Marcia (Doug) Sturma and Gina (Pat) Sommers of Aberdeen and Terri (Curt) Thelen of St. Peter, MN; one sister—Doris Ann Spear of Aurora, CO; 17 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father on March 9, 1961, his mother on November 23, 1989, and two brothers (Jim and Roy).
