Mel Freese

Mel FreeseMel Freese, 87, former Madison area resident, died on March 14, 2015, in Texas.  Interment services will begin at 2 p.m. Sun., Aug. 2, at The Lakes Golf Course Memorial Garden. A time of sharing and reception will follow at The Lakes Restaurant.

Freese was born on April 27, 1928, at Wellsburg, Iowa. His mother died when he was 7 days old and he was raised by his maternal grandparents.  He worked in the trucking industry most of his life, first as a driver, then as a salesman of trucking services and finally as a dispatcher.

He lived in Mission, Texas for many years. In 2003, he started coming to South Dakota for the summers. He worked in the clubhouse at The Lakes Golf Course.

Survivors include a son Kenneth (Jane) of Minneapolis, Minn.; a daughter, Char (Mark) Aloisio of Malta; four grandchidlren; two brothers and a sister from Waterloo, Grundy Center and Wellsburg, Iowa; several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his grandparents; parents; a brother; and a daughter.
