Lisa Marie (Fields) Rivera

Lisa Marie (Fields) Rivera passed away in her sleep on February 4, 2016.

Lisa was born to Dale and Mary Ellen Fields on May 20, 1964, in Dell Rapids, SD, and graduated from St. Mary’s High School in 1982, and from Boston University in 1987 as an occupational therapist. She married John Rivera on February 11, 2000, in Austin, TX, where she ran her own business.

She is survived by her husband, John, and her daughter, Elise; her mother, Mary Ellen Fields of Dell Rapids; her three brothers, Richard of Fortine, MT, Douglas (Linda) of Sioux Falls, SD, and Dennis (Marcella) of Golden, CO; and one sister, Kathy (George) Hansen of Littleton, CO.

She joins one sister, Colleen, one brother, Tom, and her father in heaven. Service will be in Austin at a later date.

Colleen (Fields) Smith

Colleen Fields SmithColleen Mae (Fields) Smith, an amazing mother, grandmother and wife passed away surrounded by her family on November 13, 2015. Colleen was born March 20th, 1960 in Dell Rapids, South Dakota to her parents Dale and Mary Ellen Fields. She grew up in Dell Rapids and graduated from St. Mary High School in 1978. Colleen then attended the University of South Dakota in Vermillion, graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education in 1982. She moved to Minnesota to pursue her teaching career and that is when she met her husband Kevin. They married on August 31st, 1985. Minnesota is where they started their family and she taught in Anoka Hennepin School District for over 30 years. 

Colleen is preceded in death by her father Dale Fields, brother Thomas Fields, nephew Dale “Buddy” Fields and sister in-law Melinda Fields. Colleen is survived in death by her mother Mary Ellen Fields of Dell Rapids, husband Kevin Smith and her three sons and daughter in laws Grant (Anitrina) of Princeton, MN., Tyler (Brittany) of Kansas City, and Carter (Kyla) of Rapid City, SD., grandsons Brodrick and Gabriel, siblings Richard of Fortine, MT, Kathy (George) of Littleton, CO, Douglas (Linda) of Sioux Falls, Dennis (Marcella) of Golden, CO, and Lisa (John) of Austin, TX ;and many nephews and nieces.

A celebration of Colleen’s life will be held Thursday evening, November 19, 2015 at Washburn-McReavy Funeral Chapel in Coon Rapids, MN, from 3:00-7:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be held at St. Katherine Drexel of Ramsey, Minnesota Friday November 20th, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. Colleen’s Interment Service will be held on Saturday November 21st, 2015 at 1:30 p.m. at the St. Mary Cemetery in Dell Rapids, South Dakota.

Memorials may be directed in memory of Colleen to the Ronald McDonald House, St. Katherine Drexel of Ramsey Minnesota or St. Mary Catholic Church of Dell Rapids, SD.

Lloyd Fields

Lloyd FieldsLloyd Vernon Fields, 97, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 15, 2015 at Avera Flandreau Hospital. Lloyd was born to Ord and Anna (DeBates) Fields on September 20, 1917, in Rock County, MN, near Jasper. He was educated in the country schools and attended Jasper High School for three years and then moved to South Dakota and graduated from Egan High School in 1936. After school, he farmed with his father until December 1942 when he was drafted into the service. Lloyd received his basic training at Fort Sill, OK and then was deployed overseas to Europe and was assigned to the 224th F.A. Battalion of the 29th infantry division. He served all the way through the European war landing on Omaha Beach on D-Day and going across France, Belgium, Holland and Germany to the Elfe River. After V.E. day Lloyd was assigned to occupation forces and stationed at Nordenham, Germany, until returning home in November of 1945. He received the good conduct ribbon, the ETO ribbon with four battle stars and the occupation ribbon. In 1946 Lloyd started farming with his father and two brothers near Egan. Then in 1953 he moved to a farm northwest of Flandreau and farmed there until retiring in 1997 and moved to Flandreau. Lloyd was a member of Ss. Simon and Jude Catholic Church, Catholic Order of Foresters, American Legion, Farmers Union, and N.F.O. He enjoyed hunting, playing cards and most of all truly loved pitching horseshoes!

Lloyd is survived by two sisters-in-law, Mary Ellen Fields and Joann Fields, both of Dell Rapids, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, and one sister.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 am Wednesday, August 19, 2015 at Ss. Simon and Jude Catholic Church, Flandreau, with burial in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Jasper, MN. Visitation will be from 5 – 7 pm Tuesday with a 7 pm scripture service at Skroch Funeral Chapel, Flandreau.  Condolences may be left at www.skrochfc.com.

Thomas Fields

Thomas Dale Fields died in Grand Junction, CO, on Feburary 20, 2014, after heart surgery.

He was born to Dale and Mary Ellen Fields on December 30, 1954, in Dell Rapids SD, and graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Dell Rapids. He worked as an electrician and owned his own business.

Tom is survived by his wife, Kathy, and his children Mariah and Noah; his mother, Mary Ellen Fields of Dell Rapids; his 3 brothers Richard (Melinda) of Fortine MT, Douglas (Linda) of Sioux Falls, SD Dennis (Marcella) of Golden CO; his 3 sisters, Kathy (George) Hanson of Littleton CO, Colleen (Kevin) Smith Ramsey MN, Lisa (John) Rivera of Austin, TX.Tom Joins his dad, Dale Fields in heaven.
