Mary “Maxine” Busch

busch picMary “Maxine” Busch, 96, of Dell Rapids, passed away on Monday, January 28, 2019 at the Dells Nursing and Rehab Center. In honoring Maxine’s wishes, there will be a memorial service held early this spring. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Kahler Funeral Home, Dell Rapids.

Mary Maxine Myers was born on August 1, 1922 at home in DeSmet, SD, the daughter of Ilo Paul “Ted”  and Mary Alice (Johns) Myers. On March 24, 1926 she was joined by a baby brother, Lloyd Paul Myers. She grew up and attended school in DeSmet, graduating from DeSmet High School in May of 1941. After high school, Maxine moved to Huntington Park, CA and worked at the Defense Plants. In 1945, she met Bill Busch on a trip back to South Dakota to visit family. Maxine was married to Bill Busch on a hot day in LasCruces, New Mexico on August 26, 1946 while he was stationed in the Army.  After his discharge the couple moved back to South Dakota to try farming.  In 1950, the couple moved back to California where Bill started employment at Kaiser Steel. They made their home in Fontana, CA for 32 years. Prior to that they lived in Downey, CA for nine years. After their retirement, the couple moved to Dell Rapids, SD in May of 1992.

They moved to Orchard Hills in June of 2009. On December 7, 2009 Bill died.

She is preceded in death by her loving parents, her brother, Lloyd (Jill Ryland) and her husband, Bill Busch of 63 years.

She is survived by her nieces and nephews, Kaye Myers of Brookings, SD; Mary Myers (Bill Read) of Milwaukee, WI, Stan (Annette) Myers of DeSmet, SD and Scott Myers of DeSmet, SD.

Memorials and condolences can be sent to the funeral home and will be forwarded to the family.
