Darlene Bauer

Darlene BauerDarlene M. Bauer, age 73 of Elkton, passed away Wednesday, October 29, 2014 at Brookings Health System, Brookings, SD.

She was born November 7, 1940 at Flandreau, SD to Walt and Mathilda (Hinrichs) Otto. She went to school in Ward, SD. Darlene married Roger Bauer on January 2, 1961 at Flandreau. She worked as a housekeeper at Brookview Manor in Brookings for 29 years. Darlene loved baking, especially Christmas goodies and caramels, collecting salt and pepper shakers and cookbooks, and making crafts. She loved spending time with her family and dogs. Darlene was a member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church, St. Mary’s Guild and the Thimble Club.

She is survived by her five children: Peg Houselog, Lake Benton, MN, Jim (Tammie) Bauer, Tim (Toni) Bauer, Kathy (Steve) Kopecky and David (Kristina) Bauer, all of Elkton; 11 grandchildren: Kim (Mike) Bloom, Heath (Brittany) Houselog, Marcus and Jonathon Kopecky, Dan Bauer, Amber (Mike) Kallemeyn, Trevor and Ashley Bauer, Mark, Jr., Joshua and Curtis Gould; seven great grandchildren: Merrick and Malahna Bloom, Khloe and Haylee Kallemeyn, Jacob, Adam and Benjamin Houselog; her sister: LaVonne Isreal, Redwing, MN; her brother: Bill (Shirley) Otto, Flandreau; two sisters-in-law: Betty Otto, Shakopee, MN and Mary (Bob) Tomes, Dell Rapids, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Darlene was preceded by her husband Roger on August 1, 1993, her infant daughter Joan on August 2, 1965, two brothers, Ron and Bob Otto and her parents and in-laws.

Mass of Christian Burial was held November 1, 2014 at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church, Elkton, with burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Condolences may be left at www.skrochfc.com.
