Marie M. Bohnenkamp, 87, of Dell Rapids, passed away on Sunday, July 3, 2016 at the Dells Nursing and Rehab Center. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 7, 2016 in St. Mary Catholic Church. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 6, 2016 with the family present from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. The Christian Wake Service will begin at 7:00 p.m. at Kahler Funeral Home with a Catholic Order of Foresters Rosary to follow. Marie M. VonHoltum was born in Lismore, MN. She was the youngest of seven children. She pursued a nursing career and then realized her true calling was to be a wife and mother. She married Edmund Bohnenkamp in 1950 and together they farmed near Dell Rapids. Together they would have ten wonderful children. Their home was a busy one and Marie was a traditional farm wife. She canned, raised a large vegetable garden, and hauled many meals to the field with kids in tow during planting and harvesting season, as she knew the importance of a family meal. This time gave the family a quick minute to connect and catch up for the day. Family and friends reminisce about the homemade sweet rolls and fresh bread made every Saturday night and then baked Sunday morning before 8:00 AM mass.
In Marie’s free time she enjoyed embroidery, crocheting, flower gardening, watching the birds as they came to feed in the yard and reading a book or cookbook. She loved playing with her grandchildren as they could do no wrong in her eyes. This was a time when dessert was before your meal and your toys did not have to be picked up after playing. And you never left grandma’s house without a piece of candy for the road.
Marie was a kindhearted woman and brought sunshine to those she met.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents, six siblings, her son and her husband, Ed of 59 yrs. Those left to cherish her memory are Elaine (Keith), Crooks, David (Hyon), Colorado, Wayne (Anita), Missouri, Karie, Alaska, Terry (Barb), Baltic, Sharon, Minnesota, Lisa (Jack), Dell Rapids, Kevin (Laura), Illionis, Renae (Mike) Dell Rapids and many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren.
