Marguerite “Tootie” Chamley

Marguerite ChamleyMarguerite “Tootie” E. Chamley, 97, passed away Monday, January 4, 2016 at Riverview Healthcare Community, Flandreau. She was born June 19, 1918 in rural Flandreau, SD to Oswald and Grace (Davis) Headrick. Marguerite went to Egan High School. She married Russell “Bud” Chamley on September 4, 1936 at Howard, SD. They lived in Egan and Bud preceded her in death December 16, 1972.

Tootie worked at the Egan School in the lunchroom and then worked for Green Thumb for 18 years. She continued to live in Egan until she became a resident at Greenleaf Assisted Living in Flandreau and then Riverview Manor in 2012. Tootie was a member of Egan United Methodist Church, UMW, LCA, and Egan Senior Citizens. She volunteered at Riverview and enjoyed Twins baseball, playing cards, and coffee day at Senior Citizens.

Tootie is survived by four sons, Don (Joy), Egan, Bob, Dell Rapids, Wayne, Onaga, KS, Larry (Denise), Onaga, KS, four daughters, Joyce (Butch) Britton, Flandreau, Diane (Jerome) Olson, Egan, Carol (David) Smith, Flandreau, Debbie Behrens and Steve, Holiday Island, AR, 25 grandchildren, many great and great-great-grandchildren, and best friend Dorothy Reed. Tootie was preceded in death by her husband, son Richard, grandson Lincoln, parents and two brothers, Bud and Dean.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 8, 2016 at Egan United Methodist Church with burial at Hillside Cemetery, Egan. Visitation is from 5 – 7 p.m. Thursday at Skroch Funeral Chapel, Flandreau, with a 7 p.m. prayer service. On-Line Condolences may be left at Skroch Funeral Home.
