Laura Croon

Croon PicLaura M. Croon, 98, of Dell Rapids, passed away on Monday, May 6, 2019 at the Dells Nursing and Rehab Center. Her funeral service is at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 9, 2019 in the Lutheran  Church of Dell Rapids. Internment is in the Colman Cemetery. Visitation is at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 8, 2019 at Kahler Funeral Home with the family present from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. www.kahlerfh.com.

Laura was born on September 3, 1920 at home in Moody County. She grew up on a farm northwest of Colman and attended Allen School. When she was 11 she moved into Colman to finish school and graduated from Colman High School in 1938. After high school she kept books for the city of Colman. She married Kenneth Croon on February 24, 1940 in Chester, SD. The couple made their home on a farm southeast of Colman. They moved into Colman in 1977. Laura worked as the lunchroom manager for the Colman schools for 33 years, making over 3 million dinner rolls for the school lunches. She retired in 1991. She and Ken moved to Dell Rapids in 2002. Ken passed away on November 4, 2008. Laura remained independent and lived on her own until this past year when her daughter moved in to help care for her.

She was a 50+ year member of the Colman Lutheran Church and a member of the Lutheran Church of Dell Rapids. She was an avid crossword player. Laura was preceded in death by her husband, Ken; her parents, Fred and Anna (Kroger) Thiele; her siblings, Frank, Leo, Lloyd, Mahlon Thiele and Gladys Heinricy.

She is survived by her daughter, Ardis Croon of Dell Rapids; her son, Gary (Linda) Croon of Dell Rapids; her granddaughters, Cheri Croon, Amy (Jim) Stegge and Nicole (Mike) Peyton; her great-grandchildren, Dayne, Ty and Kyndall Peyton; her sister, Wilma Beck and sisters-in-law, Lila Thiele, Jeanine Thiele, Helen Thiele, Rosie Croon, Jean Pedersen and her many nieces and nephews.

Gladys Heinricy

Gladys HeinricyGladys M. Heinricy, 97, of Colman, SD, passed away Friday, August 26, 2016 at the Dougherty Hospice House, Sioux Falls, SD. Gladys was born June 14, 1919 at Colman, SD to Fred and Anna (Kroger) Thiele. She graduated from Colman High School in 1938. Gladys married Leo Heinricy on October 26, 1940 at St. Peter Catholic Church in Colman. They lived on a farm northwest of Colman until 1977 when they retired and moved to Colman. Gladys worked at the Colman Area Rec for several years. Her husband preceded her in death on May 19, 1990. She was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church, Colman Senior Citizens and enjoyed playing cards, crocheting, cooking and especially baking pies.

Gladys is survived by her son Dick (Darlene), Colman, SD; daughter Kathy (Chuck) Relf-Schmidt, Avondale, AZ; daughter-in-law Shirleen Heinricy, Sioux Falls; 10 grandchildren, Todd, Danny, Paula, Aaron, Shane, Laurie, Noel, Heather, Jim, Brad; 17 great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Kaitlin, Tyler, Josh, Brooke, Myha, Jordan, Whitney, Elly, Wesley, Aiden, Quincey, Keeley, Lance, Mitchell, Connor, Macy; 5 great-great-grandchildren, Karsen, Kenden, Braelynn, Trent, Rogan; 2 sisters, Laura Croon, Dell Rapids, SD; Wilma Beck, Madison, SD and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Gladys was preceded in death by her husband Leo, son Leo John, granddaughter Julie, parents and 4 brothers, Leo, Lloyd, Lonnie and Frank.

Mass of Christian Burial was held on Tuesday, August 30, 2016 at St. Peter Catholic Church, Colman, SD, with burial in the church cemetery. On-line condolences may be left at the Skroch Funeral Chapel website.

Lloyd “Shorty” Thiele

Lloyd “Shorty” Thiele, age 85, died at Golden Living Center in Madison on September 20, 2012.

He was born on April 20, 1928 at Colman to Fred and Anna (Kroger) Thiele. He married Gloria Carlson on December 26, 1953 and they were married until 1969. He married Helen Thorsheim Simons on October 20, 1973.

He is survived his wife – Helen of Madison. Three daughters – Lana (Myron Thomas) Brewer and Joy (John) Martin of Colorado Springs, CO and Elizabeth Bounds of Madison. 8 grandchildren and 1 great grandson. Three sisters – Gladys Heinricy of Colman, Laura Croon of Dell Rapids and Wilma Beck of Madison.

He was preceded in death by his parents – 3 brothers – Leo, Mahlon and Frank.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, September 24, 2012, at St John Lutheran Church in Madison with Rev Daryl Schubert officiating. Burial will be in North Preston Cemetery, Lake Preston, SD.

He grew up in Colman where he graduated from high school. He served in the US Army Air Corps from 1947 until 1950 receiving the rank of Sergeant. After the service he worked for Brende Electric until 1957 when he began farming. In 1960 he had a wrecker service until 1967, worked for Bower Electric from 1967-1969, drove semi-truck for T & R Electric from 1969-1974 and from 1974 until 1990, worked as a electrician through Electrical Workers Local 426.

He was a member of St John Lutheran Church and the American Legion.

There will be a prayer service at 7:00 PM on Sunday at Weiland Funeral Chapel which is in charge of the arrangements.
