Col. John L. Dunlap Sr (Ret) was born on October 23, 1941 in Milwaukee, WI to John A. and Lorraine (LaBoule) Dunlap. Growing up, John enjoyed sailing on Cedar Lake, muscle cars, sports, and the outdoors. He grew up in a military family; graduating from Northwestern Military Academy. He married the love of his life Nancy L. Buchmann on August 22, 1964 and the family originally made their home in Brown Deer, WI.

John was a hard-working man managing two careers; serving over 24 years with US Army National Guard as well as an executive with First Wisconsin National Bank (Milwaukee, WI). He later relocated with his wife and youngest daughter to Dell Rapids, South Dakota and worked as a Vice President of a division of Citibank in Sioux Falls, SD. He retired from Citibank in 2003 and settled into a slower pace of life, enabling him to enjoy several hobbies of wood working, coin collecting and watching his favorite football team, the Green Bay Packers.

John and Nancy moved to Dow Rummel Village of Sioux Falls in 2013, where he remained until the time of his death.

He was preceded in death by both his parents.

He is survived by his wife of almost 55 years, Nancy of Sioux Falls; his children, Kristine (Steve) Tamblingson of Rock Hill, SC, John Jr. (Olivia) Dunlap of Sioux Falls and Diana Dunlap of Mint Hill, NC; his five grandchildren and one great-grandson.
