Greg Spangler

greg-spanglerGreg Spangler, 64, husband of Joan Geraets Spangler, passed away Saturday, October 8, 2016 in Lexington, Kentucky after a long battle with Multiple Systems Atrophy. He was born in Logan, West Virginia. He retired from the U.S. Army after 20 years as an E-8 First Sergeant. Following his military retirement he worked as General Manager for several different home furnishings stores. He was a member of Cathedral of Christ the King in Lexington. His sons, Mike & Brian as well as his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, always had a special place in his heart. He loved all things outdoors including boating, hunting, fishing, golfing, and gardening. He was an avid reader.

Along with his wife, he is survived by his Dad, Gary Bell of Logan, West Virginia, sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Jennifer Spangler of St. Albans, West Virginia, and Brian and Chessica Spangler of Lexington, Kentucky, grandchildren, Gloria Spangler, Caitlyn Spangler, Alexander Spangler, Zaccari Spangler, Lauren Spangler, Stella Spangler, great-grandchildren, Dan Spangler and Keira Justice. Although not related by blood, he thought of Casey Spangler as one of his own sons. He is also survived by his numerous aunts and uncles, many nieces and nephews, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. He was preceded in death by his Mother, Dora Jane Mays Bell, and brothers, Ralph Thomas Spangler II, and Richard “Rick” Allen Spangler.

Visitation with the family will be from 12:00 – 1:30 pm Saturday, November 12, 2016 at Tucker, Yocum, & Wilson Funeral Home, Georgetown, KY. Memorial services will follow at 1:30 pm at the funeral home. A Celebration of Life Ceremony will be at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Dell Rapids, South Dakota at 10:30 am on Saturday, November 19, 2016. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.

Though we mourn his loss, we rejoice in his resurrection. Donations may be made in Greg’s memory to Multiple Systems Atrophy or a charity of one’s choice. Condolences may be made at www.tuckeryocumwilson.com or at the Minnehaha Funeral Home website.
