G. “Glen” Albers

Glen AlbersG. “Glen” Albers, age 88 of Larchwood, IA died Tuesday, December 8, 2015 at the Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 12, 2015 at the Grandview Covenant Church rural Larchwood, IA. Burial will follow at the Grandview Covenant Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, December 11th from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m., with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Jurrens Funeral Home of Larchwood, IA. Condolences may be left at Jurrens Funeral Home.

Glen was born on November 22, 1927 to parents, George C. and Glayds (Feuerhelm) Albers in Dell Rapids, SD. He grew up in the Dell Rapids area. On February 7, 1949 Glen married Delores Buus and they lived in Dell Rapids, Hilltop area of Sioux Falls, SD and then moved to an acreage near Larchwood, IA in 1963. To this union four boys and three girls were born. Glen and Delores were later divorced. He met Donna Schafer at Solo Parents in Sioux Falls and they were later married on June 9, 1979. Glen was a hard worker and worked various jobs throughout his life, such as the South Dakota Highway Department, he owned and operated a restaurant in Trent, SD, worked at the Stock Yards in Sioux Falls, owned G & D Cattle Company, bought Foster Disposal and later retired from there. He found himself wanting to keep busy, so he went to work for Sioux Falls Ford as a deliveryman for nineteen years. Glen was a member of Grandview Covenant Church rural Larchwood, IA and served as greeter at various times. He enjoyed watching the Minnesota Viking and Minnesota Twin on TV. Glen and his wife Donna also enjoyed traveling to various states in the U.S. and to Europe. Glen loved his grandchildren very much and was good at coming up with nicknames for them

Glen is survived by siblings, Lois Bowen of Nassau, MN, Norma Kelly of La Mirada, CA, and Alice Lyons of Sioux Falls, SD; sons, Gary (Joan) Albers of Gatesville, TX, Gene (Becky) Albers of Larchwood, IA, Grant Albers of Sioux Falls, SD, Giles (Stacy) Albers of Storm Lake, IA; daughters, Gale (John) Viereck of Larchwood, IA, Gwen (Donald) Van Veldhuizen of Larchwood, IA, step-sons, Douglas (Marge) Schafer of Mobridge, SD, Darryl (Lisa) Knight Schafer of Newtown, ND, Jon Schafer of Sioux Falls, SD; step-daughters, Cindy (Larry) Fernholz of Wessington, SD, Jan Campbell of Sioux Falls, SD; 26 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; 6 great great-grandchildren and one on the way; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Harry, Lloyd, and George; one sister, Clazina; step-son, Jay Schafer; grandson, Dylan Albers; daughter, Ginger Doherty; ex-wife, Delores and wife, Donna; and daughter-in law, Ute Albers.
