Margaret (Geraets) Mairose

Margaret MairoseMargaret Mary Mairose, 97, passed away Monday, August 29, 2016 at Avera Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls, SD. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 AM Friday, September 2, 2016 at St. Mary Church in Sioux Falls. Family present visitation will be 5:00 – 7:00 PM Thursday, September 1 at St. Mary Church with a Prayer Service starting at 7:00 PM. On-line condolences may be left at the George Boom Funeral Home website.

Margaret Mary Geraets was born on April 20, 1919 to Henry and Mary (Rickerl) Geraets in Dell Rapids, SD, where she grew up and attended public school. Margaret moved to Sioux Falls in 1943. She was a supervisor and instructor with Northwestern Bell Company before marriage.

Margaret was united in marriage with Jerome Mairose on September 2, 1947 in Dell Rapids, SD. The couple made their home in Sioux Falls, where they raised their 5 children. Once her husband retired Jerry and Margaret traveled extensively in the US and overseas.

Margaret was a member at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, the American Legion, VFW, DAV Auxiliary, Moose Lodge and the Catholic Daughters. One of Margaret’s favorite things to do each morning was to complete a crossword puzzle.   She enjoyed theaters, musicals and social events with friends and especially cheering on the Minnesota Twins. Margaret loved spending time with her family, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Above all she was a loving and caring, mother, grandmother, sister and friend that will be greatly missed.

Margaret is survived by her children, Gordon (Mary) Mairose, Robert (Vickie) Mairose, Mary (T. Al) Washburn, Jane Mairose all of Sioux Falls, SD, and son John (Julie) Mairose, Rapid City, SD; 3 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; sister, Dolores Salviola, Dell Rapids, SD, and many more family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and 13 brothers and sisters.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Margaret’s memory may be made to Avera Dougherty Hospice House at 4509 S. Prince of Peace Pl, Sioux Falls, SD, 57103.

Dale Kroger

Dale KrogerThe Funeral Service for Dale Kroger will be held on Wednesday, October 22, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in the Kahler Funeral Home Chapel. Dale Kroger was born on May 21, 1947 in Sioux Falls, SD, the son of Darrell Kroger and Dolores (Geraets) Kroger. He grew up and attended school in Dell Rapids and graduated from St. Mary High School in 1965. Dale entered the U.S. Navy in 1965. He served 20 years of ship and shore assignments, including Viet Nam, Germany, the Philippines, Hawaii, and several bases in the United States. Dale earned the rank of Chief Petty Officer. After his discharge in 1985, Dale worked at St. Michael Cemetery and Cummins Engines, both in Sioux Falls. He retired in 2009.

After a heroic four year battle with lung cancer, Dale quietly passed away on Sunday, October 19, 2014 at the Veteran’s Hospital in Sioux Falls. He was 67 and was preceded in death by his father; his step-father, Nick Salviola; his grandparents; and several aunts and uncles.

Dale served on the Board of Directors of the U.S.S. South Dakota Battleship Memorial; was an active member of the Tri-State Navy Chief Petty Officers Association in Sioux Falls; was a member of the American Legion Post and VFW Post in Sioux Falls; and was a fan of NASCAR racing.

He is survived by his mother, Dolores Salviola of Dell Rapids; his four sisters, Sandy (Dean) Helton of Polo, IL, Linda (Glenn) Bryson of Payson, AZ, Dianne (Ross Goetz) Kroger of Dell Rapids, SD, and Deb (Mark) Duby of Peoria, AZ; three nieces and one nephew; two great-nieces and two great-nephews; two aunts; and many cousins and friends.
