Albert “Rusty” Schieber

Albert SchieberAlbert “Rusty” Schieber, 88, of Dell Rapids, SD, formerly of Colman, SD, passed away Friday, March 3, 2017, at Avera Dells Area Hospital, Dell Rapids. He was born October 29, 1928 at Thunderhawk, SD, to John and Lena (Kurt) Schieber. Rusty attended grade school in Brandt, SD, and graduated from high school at Toronto, SD. He entered the U.S. Navy and after his discharge was married to Joyce Colberg on October 30, 1949, at Luverne, MN. They lived in Astoria and Toronto and he drove truck for Thompson Brothers. They moved to Colman, SD in 1968 and Rusty drove for T & R Electric retiring in 1999. His wife preceded him in death on October 19, 1999. Rusty moved to Dell Rapids in 2015. He was a member of Colman Lutheran Church, former mayor of Colman, enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, cooking and was a former pool player.

Rusty is survived by five daughters, Kayleen (Richard) Kaduce, Eau Claire, WI; Deb Vrooman, Dell Rapids; Lori (Frank) Walker, Brandon; Lisa (Scott) Shearer, Brookings; Jody (John) Backer, Sioux City, IA; one son, John, Harrisburg, SD; 20 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren. Rusty was preceded in death by his wife, parents, son-in-law Loren, six brothers, Herman, Frank, Joseph, Mike, John, Clifford, and two sisters, Catherine and Grace.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 6, 2017 at Colman Lutheran Church with burial in the Colman Cemetery. Visitation is 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. Sunday at Skroch Funeral Chapel, Colman. On-line condolences may be left at the Skroch Funeral Home website.

Loren Vrooman

Loren VroomanLoren Scott Vrooman of Dell Rapids, SD, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 30, 2016 at his home. He was 58. Funeral Services will be at 11:00 am on Saturday, September 3, 2016, at Faith Temple Church, 2121 W 33rd St., Sioux Falls, SD 57105. Visitation will begin at noon, with the family present from 5:00-7:00 pm Friday, September 2, 2016, at Miller Funeral Home, 507 S. Main Ave., Sioux Falls, SD 57104. Loren was born to Danny and Hazel Vrooman on February 25, 1958 in Pierre, SD. During grade school, Loren moved with his family to Sioux Falls, SD and attended Franklin Elementary. He also attended Edison Middle School before graduating from Lincoln High School in 1976.

After graduation, Loren began work with his father, Danny, as a mechanic at The Gas Stop for a few years in Sioux Falls. Thereafter, he moved to Nebraska where he managed a truck stop until 1979. Loren then enrolled in truck driving at Midwest Coast School. He drove for several companies until 2000. Loren then began his career in prosthetics and worked as a technician for Orthotic & Prosthetic Specialty in Sioux Falls.

Loren married the love of his life, Deborah Jean Schieber, on September 20, 2015 in Sioux Falls after sharing 18 years together. They made their home in Colman, and later moved to Dell Rapids. Their first trip together was to Key West, FL. It was such a beautiful area that they both had trouble wanting to drive back home. They also made a couple trips to Sturgis, SD for the bike rally where they enjoyed the motorcycles.

Loren enjoyed cooking for family gatherings and particularly liked to grill. His specialty was pork loin. He spent his summers gardening and canning. Loren loved to hunt with his family. He also enjoyed golfing, watching NASCAR races, and riding his Harley motorcycle. Last year, Loren and Deb had the opportunity to purchase Loren’s newest Harley – the one that Loren was meant to have. They made a special trip to Pennsylvania to bring it home. Loren especially loved and cherished his grandchildren, and would do anything for them. A loving and protective husband, father, and grandfather, Loren would go out of his way to help those in need.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Deb, Dell Rapids, SD; sons, Michael Bowen (Sarah), Colman, SD, Paul Bowen (Megan), Pierre, SD, Dan Bowen (Nicole), Colman, SD, Wesley Hoeke, Sturgis, SD; daughters, Kristy Hawkins (Bill), Colman, SD, Jamie Bowen, Canton, SD, Chelsey Attebery (Jake), Corvallis, OR; thirteen grandchildren; parents, Dan and Hazel Vrooman, Sioux Falls, SD; and two brothers, Bruce Vrooman (Sue), Superior, WI, Chad Vrooman, Sioux Falls, and his nephew, Justin Vrooman, of Ohio. He was preceded in death by a nephew, Jeremy Vrooman.
