Interstates 29 and 90 Completely Open

December 10, 2012 by Matt Larson, Big Sioux Media

I-29 Is Open between Watertown and Sioux Falls

PIERRE, S.D.  – South Dakota Department of Transportation officials announce Interstate 29 between Watertown and Sioux Falls is now open.

There are no enforced road closures in South Dakota at this time.

Officials want to remind motorists that winter driving conditions still exist, including some snow packed and slippery areas, some ice cover and possible blowing and drifting snow.

Motorists should slow down and use caution around emergency vehicles and snowplows.

Travelers are strongly encouraged to visit www.safetravelusa.com or call 511 to check the latest road conditions and travel advisories.

Interstate 90 Open between Mitchell and Sioux Falls

PIERRE, S.D.  – South Dakota Department of Transportation officials announce Interstate 90 between Mitchell and Sioux Falls (both east and westbound lanes) is now open.

The section of I-90 between Chamberlain and Mitchell opened earlier this evening. There are no sections of Interstate 90 closed to traffic at this time.

I-29 between Watertown and Sioux Falls will remain closed until sometime Monday morning.

Transportation officials are advising that much of Interstate 90 in eastern South Dakota remains extremely icy. Blowing and drifting snow, along with extremely cold temperatures are making travel difficult and motorists are encouraged to postpone travel until tomorrow morning except in cases of an emergency.

Travelers are reminded that Department of Transportation crews will perform winter maintenance operations into the early evening hours at which time winter maintenance will be suspended so that crews can get some rest before winter maintenance operations resume in the morning.

Travelers are encouraged to visit www.safetravelusa.com/sd/ or call 511 to check the latest road conditions and travel advisories.
