Mildred Marie Maas Kuhlmeier died of natural causes on July 29, 2013 in her home at Dow Rummel Assisted Living Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Mildred was 90 years old.
She was born the third child of John and Josephine Maas in Hurley, South Dakota on January 18th, 1923. Her father was a farmer and they lived on a farm until she was in the 3rd grade at which time the family moved to Parker when her Dad took a job with the railroad. She finished her schooling when she graduated from Parker High School and moved to California, following her high school sweetheart, Dean Lyle Kuhlmeier.
Dean and Mildred were married in Las Vegas March 28th, 1942, soon after her arrival in Los Angeles, California. While in California, she worked in Bullocks Department store and a plastics factory. When Dean was stationed overseas, she returned to Parker, pregnant with their first child, Kaye Marie. When Dean returned they initially lived in Rapid City where Dean was stationed in the South Dakota National Guard. They moved to Sioux Falls and purchased a house in 1953 where she lived until 2010 when moving to Dow Rummel. Three children were born while living in this house in Sioux Falls, Paul, David and Laurie.
Mildred loved shopping, especially for shoes. Mildred worked at Jefferson Elementary School, Sioux Falls Public Schools for many years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dean, her brother, Herbert and her sister, Lois. Grateful for having shared her life are her children, Kaye (Gary) Geraets, Dell Rapids, SD, Paul (Vicki) Kuhlmeier, Boise, ID, David (Anne) Kuhlmeier, Eagle, ID, Laurie (Mike) Haggar, Sioux Falls, nine grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren.
