Marwin Beekman

Marwin Beekman, age 78, of Huron, died Tuesday, June 11, 2013, at the SunQuest Healthcare Center.  His funeral service was at 10 AM, Friday, June 14th at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church with Rev. Daniel Domke officiating.  Burial was in Hillcrest Cemetery at Estelline, with military honors by the Estelline V.F.W. Post #750.  Condolences may be left at www.kuhlerfuneralhome.com

Marwin Gene Beekman was born September 8, 1934, to John and Lorraine (Peterson) Beekman at Estelline, South Dakota.   He graduated from Estelline High School and attended college at California. On September 2, 1952, Marwin entered the United States Navy and was honorably discharged on August 29, 1955.

On August 31, 1955, Marwin married Roberta “Betty” Martin at Santa Monica, California.  Marwin owned and managed CarQuest Auto Parts at Huron for 25 years.  He also worked at Mahowald Hardware and Grayson Auto Parts. After retiring, Marwin and Betty moved to Lake Poinsett.  They lived there for eight years and then returned to Huron.  Marwin enjoyed hunting and fishing, coffee time with friends, spending time with family and his special visits with great-granddaughter, Summer.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Betty in 1999; one son, Doug Beekman in 1995; and his twin brother, Darwin.

Grateful for having shared in his life are his son, Denny (Sandy) Beekman of Dell Rapids; eight grandchildren, Andy Beekman, Scott (Sovanna) Beekman, Troy (Janelle) Beekman, Nicole (Trent) Bruce, Amanda (Chad) Klosterbaur, Brian (Kristin) Nedved, Chad Bogh and Shannon Beekman; eleven great-grandchildren; one sister, Sheryl (Bob) Wilson of Pueblo, Colorado; brothers and sisters-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.
