Marvin Meyer

Marvin A. Meyer, age 76, a retired 34 year member of the Army National Guard and Air National Guard, died Thursday, March 7, 2013 at Avera Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls. His funeral will be 11:00 AM Monday, March 11 at Faith Temple Church, Sioux Falls, with burial at Humboldt Cemetery. Visitation begins at 2:00 PM Sunday, March 10 at George Boom Funeral Home, Sioux Falls, where the family will greet friends from 2:00pm to 4:00pm.

Marvin Arthur Meyer, the third of four children born to Arthur and Gertrude Meyer, was born April 5, 1936 on the family farm near Humboldt, SD. He grew up there and graduated from Humboldt High School. Marvin earned a bachelor’s degree in agronomy from South Dakota State University, where he was also active in ROTC. He was a 34 year member of the Army National Guard and the International Guard before retiring.

Marvin farmed near Humboldt for most of his life. He married Ledesma and the couple had three children. Marvin later moved to Sioux Falls where he worked at Hy-Vee, Builder’s Square and the Sioux Falls Airport.

Marvin married Agnes Hepner on April 17, 1997 in Rock Rapids, IA, combining their children, grandchildren and great- grandchildren.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Agnes (Hepner) Meyer; two children, Lori Meyer, Lincoln City, OR, Roy Meyer, Sioux Falls, SD; five step-children, Daniel Hepner and his wife, Carrie, Sioux Falls, SD, Steve Hepner, Sioux Falls, SD, Lisa Lynn and her husband, Stan, Elizabeth, CO, Nancy DeWald and her husband, Paul, Boca Raton, FL, Susan Thies and her husband, Tim, Elizabeth, CO; three siblings, Agnes Cook, Dell Rapids, SD, Lila Mae Kirkvold, Winona, MN, Virgil Meyer and his wife, Carolyn, Humboldt, SD; and a host of other relatives and friends.
