Marlene Miller, 67, of Sioux Falls, died peacefully July 4, 2016, surrounded by family, following a lengthy battle with cancer.
Marlene Malsam was born March 30, 1949 in Hoven, SD to Andrew and Margaret (Heilman) Malsam. She grew up in Hosmer, SD area where she received her education. On August 21, 1970, she was united in marriage to Richard (Rick) Miller in Hosmer. Throughout their married life, Marlene and Rick lived in Aberdeen, Watertown, Sioux Falls, and Chamberlain, SD before returning to Sioux Falls in 1985. Marlene attended Northern State College in Aberdeen, where she earned a BA degree in Business Administration. Prior to motherhood, Marlene worked as a bookkeeper for several years.
Marlene worked in sales for Spader Camper and RV sales for 25 years before retiring in October, 2014. Marlene’s most cherished job was staying home to raise her four children. She always said, the ability to stay home with the kids, was the greatest gift Rick had ever given her. She enjoyed raising her children, her flower garden, traveling, and volunteering at Good Samaritan Center where she was a Eucharistic Minister and caregiver. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Marlene was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church in Sioux Falls.
Grateful for having shared her life are her husband of 45 years, Richard (Rick) Miller, of Sioux Falls, SD; their children Scott and his fiancé, Dana Anderson and her son, Tony, of Dell Rapids, SD, Kim (David) Mettler, Amanda (Matt) Benson, and Renee Miller, all of Sioux Falls, SD; her mother Margaret Malsam; her grandchildren, Makaylah Miller, Carson and Cole Mettler and Ethan and Amollia Benson. She is also survived by her siblings, Ronald (Mary Halsey) Malsam of Watertown, SD, Jennifer (Bill) Mount of Aberdeen, SD, Mary (Neil) Ellwein of Williamsburg, VA, Donna (Lyle) Peters of Colorado Springs, CO, Lori (Randy) Bollinger of Pierre, SD, Jane (David) Mutschelknaus of Brandon, SD, Theresa (Tony) Hanlon of Mead, CO, Andrew (Jenny) Malsam of Brandon, SD, and Randy (Molly) Malsam of Denver, CO; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors, and friends, Marlene was preceded in death by her father, Andrew Malsam.
Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:00 am on Monday, July 11, 2016 at St Michael Catholic Church. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be from 2:00-4:00 pm Sunday with a Wake Service beginning at 4:00pm at Miller Funeral Home, Westside Chapel, 6200 West 41st Street, Sioux Falls, SD.
