John “Jack” Munk

John “Jack” Munk, 89, of Dell Rapids passed away on Sunday, March 3, 2013 at the Dells Nursing and Rehab Center. His memorial service will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, March 8, 2013 at the First Baptist Church, Dell Rapids. Inurnment will be in the Dell Rapids Cemetery with military rites provided by the Dell Rapids American Legion Post at 2:45 p.m. To leave condolences please visit www.kahlerfh.com.

John “Jack” William Munk was born on February 4, 1924, the son of William and Lennie Munk. He grew up and attended school in Dell Rapids. He entered the U.S. Navy in 1943 during WWII where he served in the South Pacific. After his discharge in 1946 he returned to Dell Rapids. Jack married Ardis Nyhus on May 10, 1949 in Luverne, MN. They made their home in Dell Rapids their entire life. Jack worked for Cocran Chevrolet for four years, Dells Motor Company for 20 years and then Dakota Welding Supply Company for 25 years. He retired in 1994. Jack worked as the custodian at the Dell Rapids High School from 1995 until 2004.

He was member of the First Baptist Church, the Dell Rapids American Legion Post, and was a volunteer fireman from 1949 to 1971.

Jack is preceded in death by a sister and two grandsons.

He is survived by his wife, Ardis of Dell Rapids; his sons, Roger (Linda) Munk of Dell Rapids and David (Lori) Munk of Sioux Falls; his daughters, Jackie Hummel of Sioux Falls and Lisa Munk of Omaha, NE; nine grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren and his sister, Beryl Masters of Flowertown, PA.
