Joan Irene Heinemann, 72, of Dell Rapids passed away Monday, June 3, 2013 at her home after a long battle with cancer.
Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 AM Friday, June 7, 2013 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Dell Rapids. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will begin at 3:00 PM with the family present from 5:00 to 7:00 PM followed by a Wake Service at 7:00 PM Thursday at Minnehaha Funeral Home in Dell Rapids.
Joan Irene was born December 5, 1940 in Sioux Falls, the daughter of Nettie Elena (Inman) and James W. Jarman. She was raised and attended school in Garretson, graduating from Garretson High School. She met Jerry Heinemann at the Arkota Dance Hall and they married August 22, 1959. She had fond memories of spending weekends with her husband and friends dancing at the Arkota and Pavilion.
Joan and Jerry moved out to the Heinemann farm shortly after being married. They had four sons and two daughters. She had a catering business and went back to school to become a nurse. She worked for Terrace Manor Nursing Home in Dell Rapids until her retirement.
Joan was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church. She enjoyed a house full of family and good friends. Joan was an incredible wife, mother and grandmother.
Joan is survived by her husband, Jerry Heinemann, Dell Rapids; children, Mike (DeAnn) Heinemann, Flandreau, Craig Heinemann, Dell Rapids, Larry (Shelley) Heinemann, Dell Rapids, Steve (Kris) Heinemann, Dell Rapids and Kristi (Brad) Nieman, Sioux Falls; sixteen grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three brothers, James (Vangie) Jarman, Sioux Falls, Dick (Neva) Jarman, Roy, Utah and Jerry Jarman, Fulton, Illinois; numerous nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
Joan was preceded in death by her daughter, Kathleen Heinemann; parents, Nettie Elena and James W. Jarman; sisters, Margaret Arhendt and Kathleen Jarman and brothers, Dennis and John Jarman.
