Jeanette Ann Penning, 86, of Dell Rapids passed away Thursday, September 7, 2017 at Avera Heart Hospital. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 AM Tuesday, September 12, 2017 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Dell Rapids. Burial will be in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Dell Rapids. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM with a Wake service at 7:00 PM Monday, September 11, 2017 at Minnehaha Funeral Home in Dell Rapids. Jeanette was born July 28, 1931 to Lawrence and Theresa (Bowar) Fiegen of Renner, SD. She was to be joined by brothers, Richard and Robert; sisters, Cecelia and Catherine with Charles as the youngest. Jeanette married Melvin “Bud” Penning on January 17, 1951 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Dell Rapids. To this union was born Stephanie, Steven and Suzanne. She and Bud farmed most of their working years. Jeanette was an avid flower gardener and a faithful member of St. Mary Catholic Church. She enjoyed driving a school bus and developed a special bond with the children.
Jeanette is survived by her husband of 66 years, Bud; daughter, Stephanie (Micheal) Langner; son, Steven Penning; daughter, Suzanne (Dave) Yeigh; 13 grandchildren, Michelle (Tracy) Langner Richmond, Aaron (Holly) Langner, Adam (Sarah) Langner, Tennille (Tim) Knoop, Bethanie Langner, Kris (Ellie Hail-Langner) Langner, Jeff (Charity) Penning, Brian (Jenn Young) Penning, Amanda Penning, Barbara (Charlie Hynick) Penning, Kelly (Aspen Davis) Reed, Cory (Ali) Yeigh and Brandi (Ryan) Monson; 30 great-grandchildren; brothers, Robert Fiegen and Charles Fiegen; sisters, Cecelia Bunkers and Sister Catherine Fiegen as well as many other relatives and friends.
Jeanette was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Richard Fiegen; daughter-in-law, Joan Penning and grandson-in-law, Garrett Polley. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials are directed to the American Heart Association.
