Jeanette and Henry De Lange

DeLangeAfter nearly 63 years of marriage, Jeanette Katherine De Lange, 87, and Henry De Lange, Jr., 86, of Platte, SD, passed away peacefully within an hour of each other on Sunday, July 31, 2016 at Platte Care Center Avera. Funeral Services are 10:00 A.M. Monday, August 8, 2016 at the Platte Christian Reformed Church. A Committal Service with Military Honors will follow at Platte City Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2:00 – 4:00 P.M. Sunday, August 7, 2016 at Mount Funeral Home in Platte with a 4:00 P.M. Prayer Service.

Jeanette Katherine (Mast) De Lange was born on January 17, 1929 to Nick and Mary (Meyer) Mast in Volga, SD. She graduated from Volga High School in 1947 and was united in marriage to Henry De Lange, Jr. on October 23, 1953 at the Christian Reformed Church in Volga. After their marriage, Henry and Jeanette lived one year in Sioux Falls, SD and their remaining years in Platte. In addition to caring for her home and family, Jeanette worked for 15 years at the Platte Hospital. Jeanette was a member of the Platte Christian Reformed Church where she served as organist/pianist and was active in Ladies Aid. She loved attending her children’s and grandchildren’s events.

Henry De Lange, Jr. was born on April 9, 1930 to Henry and Alyce (Vis) De Lange in Harrison, SD. He graduated from Corsica High School in 1948 and went on to earn an AS degree from Nettleton Business College. Henry served his country in the US Army during the Korean War from November 1951 to September 1953. On October 23, 1953 Henry was united in marriage to Jeanette Mast at the Christian Reformed Church in Volga, SD. Henry was employed as a Hog Buyer for John Morrell for over 40 years and also was a Golden Sun Feed Salesman. Henry was a member of the Platte Christian Reformed Church where he served as an Elder and Deacon. He was also a member of the Platte Volunteer Fire Department. Henry enjoyed bowling and being outdoors while hunting, fishing and golfing. He loved to attend his children’s and grandchildren’s events.

Grateful for having shared in Henry and Jeanette’s lives are their five children and nine grandchildren: James (Ellen) De Lange of Taipei, Taiwan and their daughter, Katherine De Lange; Jan Hanks of Denver, CO and her daughter, Sara Hanks; Keith (Pam) De Lange of Dell Rapids, SD and their sons, Josiah and Theodore De Lange; Kevin (Sara) De Lange of Montvale, NJ and their daughters, Emma and Meg De Lange; Lee (Karen) De Lange of Sioux Falls, SD and their sons, Alex, Adam and Spencer De Lange; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Henry and Jeanette were preceded in death by their parents; siblings; and a grandson, Henry James De Lange.
