Janice Frantzen

Janice Frantzen, 66, of Colman, passed away at her home following a long battle with cancer. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 15, 2013 at St. Joseph the Workman Catholic Church, Huntimer. Interment will be in the St. Mary Cemetery, Dell Rapids. Visitation will be from noon to 5:00 p.m. at Kahler Funeral Home and resume at 6:00 p.m. at St. Joseph the Workman Catholic Church. The Christian Wake Service will begin at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, June 14, 2013. To leave condolences please visit www.kahlerfh.com.

Janice Ann Johanson was born on July 31, 1946 at Chester, SD, the daughter of Ferdinand and Marie Johanson. She grew up in Chester and attend a country school through the 8th grade and then went to Chester High School. She graduated from Chester High School in 1964. After high school, she attended nursing school in Mitchell, SD. She worked as a LPN at the Madison Hospital and then at Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls. She married Alfred Frantzen on December 27, 1969 at St. Joseph the Workman Catholic Church, Huntimer. The couple made their home on Alfred’s farm east of Chester. Janice worked for Dan and Jerry’s Greenhouse in Madison for almost 20 years until poor health forced her retirement. Alfred passed away on November 7, 2008. Janice remained on the farm until the time of her death.

She was a member of St. Joseph the Workman Catholic Church and altar society, and the Chester American Legion Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

Janice is survived by her three sons, Nicholas of Chester, Gregory of Colman, and Jeffrey (Jodie) of Madison; her daughter, Ann (Chris) Frankenhoff of Colman; her grandchildren, Bryce, Callie and Katie Frantzen and Alfred and Angus Frankenhoff; her brother, Jerry (Linda) Johanson of Colman and her sister, Judy Hoskins of Des Moines, IA.
