James Donald “Jim” DeBates, 59, Loveland, Colo., died suddenly on Monday, Sept. 16, 2013. Memorial services were held Saturday, Sept. 21 at First Christian Church in Loveland. Inurnment was in Loveland Burial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to S.P.O.H.N.C. through their website.
James Donald “Jim” DeBates was born Oct.19, 1953 in Pipestone to Francis and Shirley (Dickey) DeBates. He graduated from Luverne High School in Luverne in 1971 and moved to Colorado in 1979. Jim married Sandra K. “Sandy” Unrein on Oct. 9, 1982 in Westminster, Colo. He had resided in Loveland since 2000 and had worked for FleetwoodGoldWyard, Inc. for 34 years. Jim was a seven year cancer survivor and was a point of contact for S.P.O.H.N.C. helping others who were affected by cancer.
He is survived by his wife, Sandy, Loveland; mother, Shirley, Hardwick; daughters, Carly (Dustin) Waldorf, Loveland and Cammie (Jerad) Schwindt, Loveland; brother, Dave DeBates, Broomfield, Colo.; sisters, Debi (Rick) Ripper, Dell Rapids, S.D., Becky (Dave) Nankivel, Tea, S.D., Joni (Conrad) Keller, Broomfield, Kim DeBates, Westminster, and Jeanie (Tom) Lehmann, Broomfield; five grandchildren; his in-laws.
He was preceded in death by his father, Francis.
