Guertis L. Leischner, 90, died Wednesday, September 18 at Avera St. Benedict Hospital in Parkston. Funeral service will be Saturday, September 21 at 10:30 AM at Salem United Church of Christ in Parkston. Visitation will be Friday, September 20 from 5 to 7 PM with a 7:00 PM prayer service at Salem United Church of Christ in Parkston. Arrangements by Koehn Bros. Funeral Home in Parkston.
Guertis L. Leischner was born September 1, 1923 to Alfred and Ida (Herr) Leischner on the family farm, south west of Parkston, SD. He attended country school and Parkston High School, graduating in 1942. He was united in marriage to Phyllis Goehring on August 15, 1948 in Delmont, SD. To this union, 3 children were born: Timothy, Ronald and June. They lived and farmed on the home place until moving into Parkston in 1981. Guert devoted his entire life to farming and especially enjoyed harvest. He was a member of Salem United Church of Christ in Parkston, where he served on the church board and sang in the Men’s Choir for many years. He was also a member of the township board and Parkston Country Club board. In his early years, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, bowling, and then took up golf, which he and Phyllis enjoyed together. His real pride and joy was attending his grandchildren’s activities and watching his great-grandchildren grow. Guert went to his heavenly home on Wednesday, September 18, 2013 at Avera St. Benedict Hospital in Parkton at the age of 90.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis of Parkston; 2 sons: Tim (Pat) Leischner of Parkston and Ron (Elaine) Leischner of Tripp, SD; a daughter, June (Tom) Unangst of Colorado Springs, CO; 8 grandchildren: Matt (Jessica) Leischner of Parkston; Ben (Mishel) Reilly of Denver, CO; Lindsay (Rob) Flannery of Dell Rapids, SD; Ryan (Jennifer) Leischner of Parkston; Sarah (James) Hoff of Colorado Springs, CO; Max (Denise) Leischner of Parkston; Lauren Leischner of Brookings, SD; and Luke Leischner of Tripp; and 6 great-grandchildren: Reid, Elliott, Isabel, Sutton and Culley Leischner and Ayden Hoff.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Erwin Leischner.
