Glenn Leroy Gunderson, 84, of Crooks died Sunday, May 26, 2013 at the Dells Nursing and Rehab Center in Dell Rapids.
Funeral services will begin at 2:00 PM Friday, May 31, 2013 at the West Nidaros Lutheran Church, rural Crooks. Burial will be in the West Nidaros Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7:00 PM Thursday, May 30, 2013 at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Baltic. Condolences may be sent via www.minnehahafuneralhome.com.
Glenn was born November 30, 1928 on the family farm near Crooks to parents Magnus and Martha (Hoplin) Gunderson. He grew up on the family farm and attended Trobak Country School and later graduated from Lyons High School in 1946. After high school he worked as a farm laborer and in construction. Glenn joined the United States Army in 1951 and served during the Korean Conflict. After his discharge he returned to the farm near Crooks. He then attended electrical school in Chicago. He returned and opened a TV Repair Shop in Crooks that he operated for many years. He then became the Substitute Rural Mail Carrier in Crooks and became the full time carrier in 1986. He retired in 1995. He lived on the farm until his health failed him and he moved to Orchard Hills in Dell Rapids. He became a resident of Dells Nursing and Rehab Center in 2012.
Glenn was baptized and confirmed at West Nidaros Lutheran Church, where he was a lifelong member and served as the West Nidaros Cemetery Sexton for 20 years. He was a member of the Crooks VFW and the Baltic American Legion. He enjoyed crossword puzzles even after losing his eye site with the help of Scott Swanson and the staff at Orchard Hills and Dells Nursing and Rehab Center.
Glenn is survived by numerous cousins, family and friends.
He was preceded in death by seven brothers, Albert, Leonard, Palmer, Gerhard, Arthur, Sidney, and Selmer, and two sisters, Aagot and Alice.
