Galen Brown was born in Council Bluffs, IA and spent most of his childhood in Sioux Falls and Dell Rapids, SD. He served valiantly in the Marine Corps during the Vietnam War and was awarded a Purple Heart. Galen earned Bachelor degrees and a Master of Fine Arts from the University of South Dakota. Galen was a practicing artist and worked for many years out of his Northeast Minneapolis studio. An intellectual wit, Galen heartily enjoyed sitting with family and friends, talking into the wee hours. He instilled in his children a love of art, travel, books, good food, and music (notably Bob Dylan). Preceded in death by his parents and a brother.
He is survived by his wife, Souane; children, Melissa (John) Sullivan, Jessica, Zina (Kai), Phou (Joshua) Cameron, and Poonoy Chanthavongsa; grandchildren, Molly, Jasper, Kaila, and Zander; brothers, Kelly (Lois), Charles (Paula), and Larry; sisters, Lois (Donald) Christensen, Judy (Marty) Skar, and Linda (Alan) Ljunggren; nieces and nephews.
Galen is fondly remembered by Sharon Kay Gannon, Kay Adkins Brown and many loving family and friends.
