De Smet Boys Win Thriller over Sioux Valley

In a battle of top teams in their respective classes, the De Smet Bulldogs defeated the Sioux Valley Cossacks in an overtime thriller at the Sanford Pentagon on Saturday, February 3rd.

The largest lead for either team was only eight points in the game.  The Cossacks had a four-point lead, 11-7, at the end of the first quarter.  They had a game-high eight-point lead with about 1:30 to go in the half.  The first half ended with Sioux Valley leading 26-20.  The Bulldogs cut the lead down to two points, 37-35, going into the fourth quarter.  De Smet tied the game, and Sioux Valley had a chance to win the game in the closing sections, but the shot did not fall.  Regulation ended with a 42-42 tie.  The Bulldogs outscored Sioux Valley 8-2 in the overtime period for the win.

De Smet shot 40% (19-47) from the field overall, 28% (7-25) from three-point area, and 63% (5-8) from the free-throw line.  Sioux Valley finished the game shooting 36% (18-50) overall, 32% (6-19) on three-point attempts, 25% (2-8) from the free-throw line.

George Jensen finished with 18 points and 11 rebounds.  Kadyn Fast added with 13 points, two rebounds, and two assists.  Britt Carlson had 10 points and three rebounds.  Tom Aughenbaugh had six points, three assists, and three steals.
