De Smet Boys Hang on for Win in Howard

The De Smet Bulldog boys basketball team saw a 20-point second half lead cut to single digits, but the Bulldogs held the Howard Tigers to earn a 56-46 victory on Tuesday, January 9th.

De Smet opened the game on a 14-2 run.  Howard was able to trim the lead to 18-10 by the end of the first quarter.  The Bulldogs played well on both ends of the floor in the second quarter and led 31-20 at halftime.  They were able to push the lead to 20 points, 44-24, by about the middle of the third quarter.  Howard then made a run and cut the lead to 46-37 by the end of the third quarter.  The Bulldogs were able to maintain their lead in the fourth quarter for the win.

De Smet shot 42% (21-50) overall in the game, 29% (4-14) on three-point attempts, and 71% (10-14) from the free-throw line.  Howard finished the game shooting 44% (18-41) overall, 44% (7-16) from three-point area, and 3-4 from the free-throw line.

George Jensen finished with 23 points and six rebounds.  Grant Wilkinson added 16 points and nine rebounds.  Britt Carlson had eight points, three rebounds, four assists, and two steals.  Kadyn Fast also had eight points with three steals.
