Strong Defense Leads to Win for Bulldog Boys

The De Smet Bulldog boys basketball team used a strong defensive second half against the Chester Flyers at the Entringer Classic on Saturday, December 30th.  That strong defensive effort led to a 52-24 victory.

The Bulldog offense struggled a little bit in the opening quarter after starting on a 7-0 run.  Chester responded with 10 straight points and led 10-7 at the end of the quarter.  De Smet got rolling offensively in the second quarter and outscored Chester 21-8 for a 28-18 halftime lead.  The defense of the Bulldogs then held Chester scoreless in the third quarter as the lead grew to 48-18 by the quarter break.

De Smet shot 39% (17-44) overall in the game, 19% (3-16) on three-point attempts, and 68% (15-22) from the free-throw line.  Chester was 23% (9-39) shooting overall, 11% (2-19) on three-point attempts, and 4-7 from the free-throw line.

Grant Wilkinson had 16 points and eight rebounds.  Kaden Fast, named the game’s MVP, had 10 points, five rebounds, and three steals.  Trace Van Regenmorter also had 10 points with seven rebounds and two assists.  Britt Carlson had seven points and three rebounds.  George Jensen finished with six points, six rebounds, and three assists.  Tom Aughenbaugh had three points, six rebounds, and five assists.
