De Smet Boys Slowly Pull Away from Cyclones

The De Smet Bulldog boys basketball team kept slowly adding to their lead every quarter in their 59-40 victory over the Clark/Willow Lake Cyclones on Monday, January 9th.

The Cyclones had a lead during the first quarter, but the Bulldogs were ahead 17-12 by quarter’s end.  They extended that lead to 36-24 by halftime.  De Smet continued to build the lead throughout the third quarter and led 49-31 heading into the final quarter.  The largest lead for De Smet was 24 points midway through the fourth quarter.

De Smet shot 41% (24-58) overall, 19% (4-21) from three-point area, and 78% (7-9) from the free-throw line.  Clark/Willow Lake, meanwhile, shot 32% (17-53) overall, 14% (4-18) from three-point area, and 33% (2-6) from the free-throw line.

Damon Wilkinson had 30 points and 12 rebounds.  George Jensen finished with 12 points, seven rebounds, and three assists.  Kadyn Fast and Thomas Aughenbaugh both had six points each.  Gannon Gruenhagen ended with five points, six rebounds, and three assists.
