The Funeral Service for Delores “Dee” Culhane will be held on Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in the Lutheran Church of Dell Rapids. Visitation will begin at noon on Tuesday in Kahler Funeral Home and the family will be present from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. A time of sharing will begin at 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.
Delores Evans was born on February 20, 1932 at Brookings, SD, the daughter of Lewis and Blanche (Swedlund) Evans. She grew up in Flandreau and graduated from Flandreau High School in 1950. Dee married Doug Culhane on March 24, 1952 in Flandreau. They made their home in Flandreau, Elk Point, and Wall before moving to Dell Rapids in 1970. She worked at George’s Menswear before she went to Kahler Furniture Store. After the furniture store closed, she worked at Fashion Corner, Trustworthy Hardware, and True Value. She retired to take care of her great-grandchildren in 2005.
Dee passed away on Friday, April 8, 2016 at the Dougherty Hospice in Sioux Falls. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Doug in October of 1987.
Dee has had a special friendship with Don Knutson for the last 25 years. She has also attended church at the Lutheran Church of Dell Rapids with him during that time.
Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Terrence of Sioux Falls; her two daughters, Karen (Steve) Heinemann of Dell Rapids, and Colleen (Ronald) Feistner of Brandon; her five grandchildren, Krista, Derek, Kari, Melissa, and Paul; her four great-grandchildren, Aiden, Keaton, Keira, and Graham; her sister, Marlys Burns of Duluth, MN; and her special friend, Don Knutson of Dell Rapids.
