Cardinal Girls Fend off Colman-Egan

The Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinals were able to fend off a comeback bid by the Colman-Egan Hawks on Monday, December 19th.  The Cardinals built a lead in the first quarter that was large enough to earn a 46-44 home win.

St Mary built a 10-point lead with about 2:30 to play in the first quarter.  The quarter ended with the Cardinals leading 14-8.  The Hawks were able to cut the lead down by a point at halftime, 20-15.  St Mary was able to add to their lead by the end of the third quarter and led 31-23 heading into the final quarter.  The extra lead gained in the third quarter was enough to hold off the rally by Colman-Egan.  The Hawks outscored St Mary 21-15 in the final quarter.

St Mary shot 34% (20-59) from the field, 22% (4-18) from three-point area, and 29% (2-7) from the free-throw line.  The Hawks finished the game shooting 35% (13-37) overall, 29% (4-14) on three-point attempts, and 61% (14-23) from the free-throw line.  The Cardinal defense was able to force 24 Hawk turnovers in the game.

Madala Hanson finished with 19 points, six rebounds and two assists.  Ella Griffin had 16 points five rebounds, two assists, and two steals.  Sydney Klein and Brianna Griffin both had four points each.
