The Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinal volleyball team faced a touch Chester Flyer team in the Region 3B tournament on Thursday, November 3rd in Salem. The Flyers defeated the Cardinals in straight sets to end the St Mary season.
After an early 5-4 lead by the Cardinals in the opening set, Chester went on a 9-1 run for a 13-6 lead. The Flyers continued to roll to a 25-13 win. Chester opened the second set with a 6-1 run. St Mary cut the lead to 8-5, but the Flyers slowly continued to extend their lead to 20-10. Chester won the second set 25-15. St Mary had a 9-6 lead to start the third set. After a Flyer timeout, Chester went on a 10-0 run for a 16-9 advantage. The Flyers took the third set 25-16 for the match win.
Ella Griffin finished with a team-high 15 kills and also had a block. Maya Heinitz had 14 digs and four kills. Brianna Griffin and Jaycee Tebay both had two kills each. Brianna Lindeman finished with 21 set assists, eight digs, and an ace serve. Josie Baumberger had 11 digs. Madala Hanson added 10 digs and a set assist. Whitney Warwick had eight digs and an ace serve.
The Cardinals finished the 2022 season with an overall record of 13-14.
