The Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinal volleyball team traveled to Iroquois to play the Iroquois/Lake Preston Sharks on Thursday, September 29th. The Cardinals won in straight sets by scores of 25-13, 25-14, and 25-21.
The Cardinals went on a run after a close 7-5 lead early in the first set. From that point, St Mary outscored the Sharks 8-3 for a 15-8 lead. The Cardinals controlled the game from there winning 25-13.
After a 4-4 tie early in the second set, the Cardinals went on a big run. St Mary went ahead 14-6 after a 10-2 run. They continued to cruise from there for a 25-14 second set win. The final set was close early with St Mary only holding an 11-9 lead. The Cardinals scored five in a row to push the lead to 16-9. The Sharks got within two points, 16-14, but that was as close as they would get as St Mary won the final set 25-21.
Brianna Griffin led the team in kills with 12. She also had two blocks. Ella Griffin had eight kills, one block, and a set assist. Maya Heinitz finished with seven kills, 16 digs, and four ace serves. Brianna Lindeman had 27 set assists, three kills, and three ace serves. Megan Geraets finished with three kills and four blocks. Josie Baumberger had 10 digs, Whitney Warwick had eight, and Madalan Hanson added seven digs.
