The Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinal volleyball team ended a five-match homestand on Thursday, September 15th. The Cardinals hosted the Deubrook Area Dolphins, and the Dolphins took the straight-set win to end the stretch of Cardinal home matches.
After an early 4-4 score in the opening set, the Dolphins went on a 9-0 run for a 13-4 lead. That run helped them to a 25-15 win in the first set. Deubrook took a close score, 8-6 in favor of the Dolphins, in the second set and turned it into a 20-8 lead after a 12-2 run. St Mary rallied, but Deubrook won the second set 25-17. The Cardinals used some of the momentum from the second set rally to build a 12-9 lead in the third. Deubook, however, responded with a 10-2 run to take a 19-14 lead. St Mary pulled within a point, 23-22, but the Dolphins scored the final two points for the 25-22 win.
Maya Heinitz finished with seven kills, 12 digs, and two ace serves. Brianna Griffin also had seven kills along with two blocks and a dig. Ella Griffin added three kills, three blocks, three digs, and a set assist. Jaycee Tebay had three kills and two blocks. Brianna Lindeman finished the match with 17 set assists, 10 digs, two kills, and a block. Jose Baumberger had a team-high 17 digs. Madala Hanson and Whitney Warwick both finished with nine digs and one ace serve each.
