Arlington pulled away in the fourth quarter to win the battle of the Cardinals over the St Mary girls at St Mary High School on Monday, February 9th. Arlington took the win by a score of 57-51.
The entire game was played within single digits between the two teams. Each team also had a lead in each of the first three quarters and were also tied in the fourth quarter. Arlington had the lead after each of the first two quarters. They led 18-16 at the end of the first quarter and 30-29 at halftime.
St Mary went on an 8-2 run over the first six minutes of the third quarter to go ini front 37-32 with 2:00 to play. Arlington responded with a 9-3 run in that two minute span to take a 41-40 lead into the fourth quarter. The game was tied 42-42, 45-45, and 47-47 in the fourth quarter. Arlington went ahead 50-47 with a three-point shot with 3:15 to play. The score remained 50-47 for the next two minutes. St Mary pulled within a point, 50-49, with just over a minute to go. Arlington made a field goal with just under a minute to go and then made enough free throws down the stretch for the win.
St Mary finished the game shooting 37% (17-46) overall, 20% (4-20) on three-point attempts, and 68% (13-19) from the free-throw line. Arlington was 38% (18-47) shooting overall, 40% (10-25) from three-point area, and 69% (11-16) from the free-throw line.
Maddyn LeBrun had 16 points, six rebounds, and three steals in the game. Stephenie Geraets added 13 points, six steals, and two rebounds. Layla Joe Hanson had 11 points, four steals, and three rebounds. Sophia McNaughton had five points. Harper Werdel ended with three points, five rebounds, and three assists. Madelyn Klein also had three points.
