Winning Streak Stays Alive for St Mary Girls

The St Mary Cardinal girls ran their winning streak to eight games after a 52-43 win in overtime at home against the Deubrook Dolphins on Tuesday, January 27th.

The two teams battled back-and-forth all game long.  The Cardinals held an early 7-4 lead with 3:00 to go in the first quarter.  The quarter ended with a 14-14 tie score.  The Dolphins would hold a slim 24-23 lead at halftime.  Deubrook extended their lead in the the third quarter, but just by three points.  The Dolphins led 34-30 going into the fourth quarter.

The Cardinals were able to stay within one-to-two possessions of Deubrook the entire fourth quarter.  They pulled even at 43-43 after Harper Werdel made a layup with about :05 to go in the game.  That made shot sent the game into overtime.  In the overtime period, the Cardinals held Deubrook scoreless for the entire four minutes to take the 52-43 win.

St Mary’s shot 37% (19-51) from the field overall, 38% (5-13) on three-point shots, but just 9-20 from the free-throw line.  Deubrook finished the game shooting 28% (14-50) overall, 13% (3-24) from three-point area, and 60% (12-20) from the free-throw line.

Maddyn LeBrun finished with 15 points, six rebounds, and two assists.  Madelyn Klein had 11 points, four rebounds, and two assists.  Werdel ended with eight points and 12 rebounds.  Stephenie Geraets added nine points, three rebounds, three steals, and two assists.
