Cardinal Girls Keep Winning Streak Going in Castlewood

The St Mary Cardinal girls kept their winning streak going and won their seventh straight game after a 50-27 victory over the Castlewood Warriors on Tuesday, January 20th.

The Warriors made the first three points of the game, but St Mary then went on a 12-0 run to take a 12-3 lead with 2:00 to play.  The quarter ended with the Cardinals in front 12-6.  The defense for St Mary held Castlewood to no field goals and just five made free-throws in the second quarter to help them increase the lead to 24-11 by halftime.

The defense for the Cardinals continued to caused problems for Castlewood in the second half.  The Warriors made a total of five more shots from the court over the last two quarters.  St Mary was able to extend their lead to 38-23 by the end of the third quarter and outscored Castlewood 12-4 in the fourth quarter.

St Mary shot 45% (18-40) from the field overall, 60% (9-15) on three-point shots, and 5-8 from the free-throw line.  Castlewood ended the game shooting 21% (7-33) overall, 25% (4-16) on three-point attempts, and 50% (9-18) from the free-throw line.

Layla Joe Hanson finished with 16 points and three rebounds.  Madelyn Klein had 12 points in the game.  Maddyn LeBrun had 10 points, five rebounds, and three assists.  Stephenie Geraets had four points, four rebounds, and three steals.  Harper Werdel also had four points with three steals and two rebounds.
