St Mary’s Girls Win Sixth Straight

The St Mary Cardinal girls won their sixth straight game after a 41-33 win over the Edgerton Dutchmen at the DVC Classic at Deubrook High School on Saturday, January 17th.

The Cardinals scored 17 of their 41 points in the opening quarter.  St Mary’s built a 17-12 lead going into the second quarter.  Edgerton tied the game 19-19 with 5:30 to play in the half.  The score would remained tied at halftime, 26-26.

The defense for the Cardinals helped get the win.  They held Edgerton scoreless in the third quarter which allowed the Cardinals to build a 34-26 lead going into the fourth quarter.  The defense continued to play a pivotal role in the fourth quarter holding the Dutchmen to just seven fourth quarter points.

St Mary’s finished the game shooting 37% (17-46) overall and 37% (7-19) from the free-throw line.  The team was 0-10 on three-point shots.  Edgerton shot 32% (13-41) overall in the game, 21% (4-19) on three-point attempts, and 3-6 from the free-throw line.

Stephenie Geraets was named the game’s MVP, and she finished with 12 points, eight steals, and six assists.  Maddyn LeBrun had 11 points, seven rebounds, and four steals.  Harper Werdel ended with eight points and six rebounds.  Layla Joe Hanson had six points.
