Sioux Falls Lutheran Takes Advantage of Rough Shooting Night for Cardinal Boys

The St Mary Cardinal boys basketball team was on the wrong side of a cold shooting night on Friday, January 2nd against the Sioux Falls Lutheran Eagles.  The Cardinals shot just 25.5% (12-47) overall and just 1-17 on three-point shots.  They were 14-19 from the free-throw line, but that wasn’t enough as the Eagles grabbed the 70-39 win.

The first half was played pretty close between the two teams.  Sioux Falls Lutheran ended the first quarter with a slim 11-10 lead.  They were able to extend that lead in the second quarter, but the Cardinals were still within striking distance at halftime.  The Eagles led 29-21.

Sioux Falls Lutheran exploded offensively in the third quarter scoring 25 points.  The Cardinals were unable to keep pace, and the third quarter ended with the Eagles leading 54-32.  St Mary’s was then held to just seven points in the fourth quarter.  The Eagles finished the game shooting 45.6% (26-57) overall, 39.1% (9-23) from three-point area, and 52.9% (9-17) from the free-throw line.
