Cardinal Girls Get Back into Win Column

The St Mary Cardinal girls basketball team snapped a four-game skid with a big win over the Sioux Falls Lutheran Eagles at home on Friday, January 2nd.  The Cardinals built a big lead  in the first quarter on their way to a 60-25 victory.

St Mary’s put 19 points on the board in the first quarter while holding the Eagles to single digits.  The Cardinals lead 19-5 at the end of the quarter.  They were able to extend the lead to 26 points by halftime, 39-13.  Their run continued throughout the second half.  St Mary’s outscored the Eagles 21-12 over the final two quarters.

The Cardinals shot 47% (26-55) overall in the game, 21% (3-14) on three-point attempts, and 45% (5-11) from the free-throw line.  Sioux Falls Lutheran was 31% (9-29) shooting overall, 23% (3-13) from three-point area, and 4-8 from the free-throw line.

Stephenie Gereats and Maddyn each had 18 points in the game.  Madalyn LaVoy and Sophia McNaughton each finished with six points.  Layla Joe Hanson added five points, and Kate Liebl ended with four points.
