The Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinal volleyball team won their fourth straight match to start the season on Thursday, September 12th. The Cardinals defeated the Canistota Hawks in straight sets during homecoming week.
The two teams traded leads in the first set. After a 2-2 tie, the Cardinals took the the lead 6-4. They extended the lead to 9-5, but the Hawks tied the score 10-10. The Cardinals went back in front 12-10, but Canistota then scored the next three points for a 13-12 lead. St Mary responded with four straight to regain the lead 16-13. They then went on a 7-1 run to go ahead 23-14 before winning 25-19.
St Mary rallied in the middle part of the second set. The Cardinals led by just one point, 9-8, before going on a 5-1 run to increase their lead to 14-9. They extended their lead to 19-11 before finishing the seton a 6-1 run for a 25-12 win. After a 3-3 tie to start the third set, St Mary scored 12 straight points for a 15-3 on their way to a 25-10 victory.
