Cardinal Volleyball Improves to 3-0

The Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinal volleyball team improved to 3-0 on the season after a straight set win over the Oldham-Ramona-Rutland Raiders on Monday, September 9th.  The Cardinals won by scores of 25-20, 25-20, and 25-23.

Both teams made runs in the first set.  The Raiders started on a 3-1 run.  St Mary countered with a 5-0 run for a 6-3 lead.  The Cardinals maintained their lead and extended it to 14-9.  Oldham-Ramona-Rutland went on a 6-0 run to regain the lead 16-15.  St Mary went on a 6-0 run of their own for a 20-15 lead.  The Cardinals stayed in front the rest of the set for a 25-20 win.

The Raiders started the second set with the lead.  They were in the lead by scores of 5-2, 7-4, and 9-5.  St Mary went on a 5-0 run for a 10-9 lead.  After the Raiders were leading 15-12, the score was tied 16-16.  The two teams were tied again 18-18.  St Mary went on a 5-1 run for a 23-19 lead and won the second set 25-20.

The Cardinals went on a 3-0 run to start the set.  Oldham-Ramona-Rutland  went on a 7-2 run for a 7-5 run.  The score was tied 8-8 and 10-10 before the Cardinals went on a spurt.  St Mary went ahead 16-11. The Raiders had another run in them.  They went on a 7-1 run for an 18-17 lead.  St Mary responded with a 4-1 run for a 21-19 lead.  The Cardinals led 23-20, but then the Raiders scored the next three points to tie the score 23-23.  The Cardinals would score the final two points to win 25-23 and take the match.
