The Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinal boys extended their winning streak to five games after a 74-68 home win over the Pipestone Area Arrows on Monday, February 19th. After a slow offensive first half, the two teams put on an offensive show in the second half.
The two teams did combine for 36 total points in the first quarter as St Mary lead 22-14. The offense then slowed way down in the second quarter. Pipestone outscored St Mary 13-9 in the quarter to cut the lead to 29-27 at halftime. The Cardinals almost scored as many points in the third quarter as they did in the first half. St Mary outscored the Arrows 24-16 to take a 53-43 lead into the fourth quarter. They Cardinals were able to maintain their lead in the fourth quarter for the win.
St Mary shot 54% (28-52) overall, 39% (9-23) on three-point attempts, and 60% (9-15) from the free-throw line. Pipestone finished the game shooting 41% (24-59) overall, 24% (6-25) from three-point area, and 70% (14-20) from the free-throw line.
Trevon Beckman had 34 points, six rebounds, four assists, two steals, and two blocked shots. Maverick LeBrun finished with 22 points and six rebounds. Nic Gaspar added 10 points, four rebounds, and two assists. Trimmier Hanson had five points, two rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Lucas Flemmer pulled down seven rebounds in the game.
