Cardinals Roll to Big Win over Oldham-Ramona/Rutland

The St Mary’s Cardinal football team had another big win on Friday, August 28th.  For the second week in a row, the game ended early on the 50-point rule as the Cardinals defeated the Oldham-Ramona/Rutland Raiders 62-12.

Thomas LaVoy scored two of his four rushing touchdowns in the first quarter.  The first one came with about 7:10 to go on a 26-yard run.  His second touchdown was of four yards.  The Cardinals made both two-point conversions and led 16-0 after the first quarter.

The second quarter had a combined 42 points scored between the two teams.  LaVoy scored his third rushing touchdown with 10:04 to go on a 59-yard run.  With 7:27 to go in the half, Brady Jewett connected with Logan Bauer for a six-yard touchdown pass to push the St Mary’s lead to 30-0.

Oldham-Ramona/Rutland got on the board with 5:56 to play in the second quarter on a 20-yard touchdown pass.  The Cardinals didn’t wait long to score after that.  Jewett found Jaxon Baumberger for a 29-yard touchdown pass with 5:20 to go in the half to extend the lead to 38-6.  The Raiders scored again with 3:27 to play on a 13-yard touchdown pass to make the score 38-12.  Jewett had his third touchdown pass of the quarter on a 22-yard pass to LaVoy with no time left on the clock.  St Mary’s led 46-12 at halftime.

LaVoy’s fourth rushing touchdown came early in the third quarter.  Another two-point conversion made the score 54-12.  With 6:52 to play in the third quarter, Pano Skliris scored a touchdown.  The Cardinals again made the two-point conversion to end the game 62-12.

St Mary’s finished with 357 yards of total offense, 293 rushing yards and 64 passing yards.  Oldham-Ramona/Rutland had 136 yards of offense, 14 rushing yards and 150 passing yards.

LaVoy finished with five total touchdowns.  He had eight carries for 143 yards and four rushing touchdowns along with a catch for 22 yards and a touchdown.  Skliris had three carries for 78 yards and a touchdown.  Jewett finished 5-13 passing for 64 yards and three touchdowns.  Jacob Geraets had six tackles in the game.  Kade Lutt finished with 5.5 tackles.  Jake Heinitz added four tackles.  Bauer had three tackles and a sack.
